Every WeChat group listed on GroupsWeChat runs on the same short set of rules. They exist for one reason: to keep the chats useful. A group that fills up with adverts and arguments stops being worth reading, and people leave. Moderators enforce these rules by hand, and members who break them are removed.

The rules every member agrees to

1. Reviews from real people

Ask for feedback on any product or service inside the relevant group. Honest reviews from real members help everyone choose well and avoid bad deals.

2. No spam or off-topic ads

Spam and unrelated commercial advertising are not allowed. Posts should be useful and relevant to members. Advertising is fine only when it matches the topic of the group.

3. Mutual respect

We expect members to treat each other with respect. Insults, threats, and hostile behavior are strictly prohibited and lead to a ban from the group.

4. Accurate information

Share only current, verified information. If you post a news item or a tip, make sure it is true before you send it.

5. Active participation

We welcome active members. The more knowledge and experience you share, the more useful and interesting the group becomes for everyone.

6. Exposing scams — with proof

We encourage members to expose fraudsters, as long as claims come with evidence. If you have proof that someone in a group acted dishonestly, warn the community by posting screenshots or video in the group.

What gets you removed

  • Posting adverts that have nothing to do with the group’s topic, or mass-messaging members privately.
  • Insults, threats, harassment or hostility towards other members.
  • Accusing someone of fraud without evidence, or spreading rumours as fact.
  • Sharing another member’s personal information without their permission.
  • Adding members to other groups or selling the group list on.

Staying safe in a group

Most members are straightforward, but any large chat attracts a few people who are not. Ask the group for feedback on a seller, an agent or an employer before you pay anything. Be wary of anyone who pushes you to move the conversation off WeChat, or who asks for a deposit before you have seen an apartment or signed a contract. For larger trades, the admin team can hold a deal in escrow — message the admin to arrange it.

Reporting a problem

If someone in a group is spamming, abusive or dishonest, send the admin a screenshot. Reports are handled privately and the person reporting is never named. You can reach the admin from the contacts page.
